1. Go up the TV Tower in the East The entrance lobby is nearly as exciting as the revolutions and view when you get up there. Built in the late 60s, this 365-metre high tower is the symbol of Berlin. Visit the revolving café for a taste of East Block modernity.

3. Drink Becks in Oranienburgerstrasse Just round the corner from the Hackesche Höfe, art nouveau courtyard complex is Oranienburgerstrasse. Visit O&G bar, originally Obst and Gemüse, one of the first “cool” bars in the East after the Wall fell. Opposite is Tacheles, an alternative arts complex.

8. Drink tea in the Tajikistan Tearooms Up the grand staircase in the Palais am Festungsgraben, just behind the Neue Wache on Unten den Linden, are the strange, but beautiful Tearooms. A remnant of Soviet-friendly times, enjoy tea with biscuits, jams and vodka, all served while sitting on the floor.
9. Eat breakfast Berliners love to meet up for a slow long breakfast in a café. Try Café Morena on Spreewaldplatz in Kreuzberg or Café Milagro in Bergmannstrasse.
10. Go out all night In Berlin, it is still possible to do this without going to clubs. For the most interesting bars, you’ll have to press a buzzer to get in.
